Product Design Exhibition MADE IN BERLIN presents Berlin creativity at the renowned international design fair SALONE DEL MOBILE 2008 in Milan.

Berlin designers present a unique exhibition with an exciting architecture.
MADE IN BERLIN is an exhibition taking place at the world’s most important trade fair for furniture and interior design, the Salone Internazionale del Mobile. Nineteen selected Berlin design labels will showcase their work in the BERLIN DESIGN DOME (April 16 - 21, 2008). Specially created to house the exhibition, the BERLIN DESIGN DOME takes the form of Berlin’s television tower and was the brainchild of designer Susanne Philippson. The dome acts as a creative ambassador for the city of Berlin and will function as a symbolic trademark for other projects supporting the city’s creative economy.
Berlin’s extremely vibrant design scene has developed a momentum of its own, and many creative firms applied to present their works in the exhibition MADE IN BERLIN. Product designers and design firms selected based on the quality of their work include Motorberlin.com, Martin Holzapfel Möbel, Mark Braun Design, Björn Meier, Ett la benn, JonApl, Susanne Philippson Design, Reuber Henning, Flip Sellin, Parkhaus, Roomsafari, Thesenfitz & Wedekind, Tom Kühne Architektur and Design, Form-Al, Kiru System, Llot Llov, Metrofarm, Heike Buchfelder with the design office Pluma Cubic and Bomb Design with Ulrike Acker.
A high-profile CREATE BERLIN curatorial team, including product design specialist Prof. Werner Aisslinger and design theorist Prof. François Burkhardt, are providing the expertise for the Berlin exhibition project, which will take place in the popular Zona Tortona district. MADE IN BERLIN showcases various objects made from innovatively processed materials. The product designer Björn Meier makes a striking statement with his sofa “shift,” which can be combined in various units and has a highly communicative component. In keeping with the utmost classic furniture design, the product design company ett la benn presents a collapsible metal and wood table on sawhorse legs that can be folded up with a single hand movement. The mobile kitchen designed by JonApl consists of three components that are particularly flexible and can be assembled both as a separate kitchen as well as a mobile bar. The aluminium Pyylo lounge tables created by Susanne Philippson are a “pair”" in the exhibition, but according to the designer they can be used individually. The design office Reuber Henning is showing the carpet “fairy-tale”—" part of its “stories”" series —with beautiful motifs woven with wool from the Tibetan highlands. Flip Sellin’s lamp “polygon crash"” consists of three lampshades and produces a fascinating combination of light and shadow.
On Wednesday, April 16, a press reception was held to offer journalists a tour of the exhibition. They also had the opportunity to interview the designers and promoters. In the evenings of April 19th and 20th the BERLIN DESIGN DOME turned into a party location. Hundreds of people were dancing "berlin like" from dusk till the dawn of the next day.
MADE IN BERLIN was initiated by the Berlin design offices Hidden Fortress (German branch), COORDINATION BERLIN and ZENDOME in cooperation with the design initiative CREATE BERLIN and the DMY International Design Festival Berlin 2008.
